Many Languages, Many Challenges, One Goal: The Future of Research and Practice in Language Mastery by Deaf Learners
As with all educational outcomes, good language instruction requires ongoing research to establish, maintain, and renew the pool of best educational practice. The research pool to date offers education practitioners little advice on how to improve language outcomes for students who are deaf. This presentation summarizes the literature in language instruction identifying newly emerging areas of strength as well as weak areas in the evidence base that require renewed efforts and suggests a research agenda to take us into the next decade. Finally it explores an emerging paradigm, research from The Radical Middle, to guide the development of prudent research questions.
